Fly with the Flock

A relaxing game telling a story without words

Content at a glance:

This is a great, addictive and yet relaxing game with beautiful backgrounds, delightful music and simple gameplay. It’s both short and replayable. There is no objective, no goal and no concrete narrative; just a flock of birds and a wide, open sky.

Gathering Sky is a game with no rules, no objectives and no words and yet it’s strangely addictive. Easy to play both with and without a touchscreen device, you control a flock of birds against a backdrop of gorgeous scenery and emotive music, telling a story both tense and joyful without a single word.

You begin with just a single bird. As you guide the bird through a loose maze, you join with other birds, creating your very own flock. Along the way, you encounter a range of interactive obstacles such as floating orbs, musical lights and swooping hawks.

Available on a range of platforms, including Steam, Android and iOS, this is a game that anyone can play and enjoy. The simplicity of this game is what makes it so appealing. It’s even less stressful than solitaire, where there’s no guarantee that your puzzle has a solution. You create your own objectives here. You control the speed. You decide the story.

The strangest thing about it is that you want your flock to survive. Until you know they’re going to be safe, it’s almost impossible to take your eyes away from the screen. And that there are no enemies or real dangers to the birds in the gameplay really speaks to the brilliance of the game’s lighting effects and the depth of the musical score. If you’re looking for an escape from the stresses of everyday life, sit your family down with this for half an hour. I promise you, your house will be the most relaxed in the street.
