I will definatly skip this one and my teenage boys will not play it. I was shocked that so many have said how great it is with all the profanity and violence. I hate to say it but I was shocked by most of the reviews I read. I guess more disappointed than shocked. Doesn’t sound like Halo fits in with my biblical world view. And I agree, the energy-sword elites in halo look a lot like zealots. Though there is a lot of language, it is sprinkled throughout the game so you don't get a whole slew of cuss words with ever second of game play. A-word here, S-word there. And its only when you have teammates. The only person that talks to you throguhout the game is Cortana, and she has reletavely clean vocabulary. I think she did say a cuss word once or twice though. But that might have been in halo 2, not 1. I can't remember. And the flood was a definate creep-you-out-of-your-pants element. They are basically zombies. The flood are a race of aliens that starts out by parasites which inhabit dead corpses and control its brain from the inside, making the corpse move like a puppet to the Flood. The level 343 Guilty Spark was CREEPY. Basically you're in a swamp, surrounded by scary ambient music, and covenant running for their lives from something not human, you don't figure out what it is until you go inside a building and find yoru human friends murdered on the floor, one with a recorded video of the flood which Master Chief watches and to his dismay, realises that he's stepped in the middle of the flood's operations. When you kill people there blood splashes everwhere, but that only happens if your really bad and just stand there looking at it or are killing your own troops. the game curses sometimes but you never really notice it over the sound of a firing weapon in your hands. One of the things i agree with though, is that it FREAKS YOU OUT when you are coming around a corner and some huge covenant is standing right there waiting to kill you. I cant tell you how many times I've been freaked out by that. Thats just crazy, Halo was not only my first fps game, but also my first M game and I found no problem with it. The only thing to be noted is the violence , which can be pretty heavy at some times. Anyone who likes FPS’s HAS to get this game! One of the best of its time. I personally think it's more gorier and has more language. Though something I noticed with the blood is that in this game you can shoot or hit people and blood flies out. In halo 2 you can only shoot to have blood come out or death sequences. IN halo 3 just death sequences make blood come out. So all around I have to agree with Josh that this deserves an M though I also agree with speedman that I have played this game and beat it around 8 times and I've never heard sob or s*** I’m gonna have to agree with Josh this game does deserve an M rating. Knowing that I could catch some heat on this, I think that Halo *does* deserve the M rating. This was the first M game that I have ever played, and the content was noticeably stronger than in games like Medal of Honor and Metroid Prime. In Halo, you are a super-soldier who is trying to survive against a deadly alien force called the Covenant. You are armed with an arsenal of assault weapons that you use to combat them. Blood squirts out of characters when they get shot, and it even stains entire walls. Red blood or blue blood, it is still blood. Some enemies explode into several gory chunks when hit with the shotgun. The language is also fairly coarse. Alas, this is not a game for young children. Let the M rating on the front of the box be an advisory to parents. I have heard many of my friends say that “Halo: Combat Evolved” doesn’t deserve an M rating (rather, a T rating).
